Manchester United ‘consider two shock strikers for loan’
January 25, 2020Manchester United are considering signing Islam Slimani or Odion Ighalo on loan as short-term striker cover, according to reports.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been left light on numbers up-front after Marcus Rashford suffered a stress fracture in his back and is set to be out of action until at least after the winter break.
He is United’s top scorer by far this season and they are already missing his goals, having failed to hit the back of the net in the back-to-back defeats against Liverpool and Burnley in his absence.
As a result, United are being touted to bring in a striker to help lessen the impact of the loss of Rashford and Sky Sports have thrown two unlikely names into the fray.
It’s claimed that Slimani and Ighalo have ‘become loan targets following Rashford’s injury.’
Slimani joined Leicester for £27.5million following their Premier League title win but struggled to adapt and has since spent the last three seasons out on loan at Newcastle, Fenerbahce and Monaco.
The 31-year-old is enjoying a good season in France, having netted seven times in 13 league games.
Former Watford man Ighalo had a great start to the life in the Premier League, scoring 15 times in the first-half of the 2015/16 season but only managed two more after that, before then earning a move to the Chinese Super League, where he has represented CC Yatai and Shanghai Shenhua.
United may be light on options upfront and missing their star attacker, but moves for poor strikers in their 30s who previously struggled in the Premier League seems unlikely.
Meanwhile, United have been touted for a move for PSG teenager Eric Junior Dina-Ebimbe.
