Mwenda And  Gen. Muhoozi Signal Reopening of Daily Monitor and NTV

Mwenda stated that he and Gen. Muhoozi reached a consensus to reopen the two Nation Media Group outlets, which have faced restrictions in recent months.

Before reopening, Mwenda emphasized that they will first hold discussions with the management of both sister companies to align on terms and expectations.

As leaders of PLU, Mwenda and Muhoozi framed the move as part of their broader political and media engagement strategy.

Mwenda confirmed he will inform the management of Daily Monitor and NTV when the meeting can take place.

“I have just held discussions with Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba @mkainerugaba and we, as leaders of PLU, have agreed that we shall reopen both Daily Monitor and NTV soon. However, we shall first have discussions with the management of both sister companies. I will inform them when we can have this meeting,”

The closure of Daily Monitor and NTV Uganda has been a contentious issue in Uganda’s media landscape, sparking debates about press freedom, political influence, and the role of independent journalism.

The announcement by Mwenda and Muhoozi signals a possible thaw in relations between PLU and the media houses.

The reopening could be seen as a step toward easing tensions between government-aligned forces and independent media.

This move may boost PLU’s image as a party willing to engage constructively with critical voices. Journalists and media practitioners will be watching closely to see if the reopening comes with conditions or guarantees of editorial independence.
