Drama That Surrounded Hon Ssegirinya’s Burial

January 13, 2025

Kawempe North member of parliament Hon Ssegirinya Muhammad also known as Mr Updates was laid to rest yesterday at his ancestral home in Masaka.

By the time of his death he was still a member of parliament and also a big supporter of the opposition political party National Unity Platform (NUP) led by Bobi Wine. It is the same party that gave him a card which took him to parliament.

Like any other member of parliament, once one of them dies, they are buried with a certain type of respect. The burials are always organised by the government and led by the police or army.

But for Ssegirinya, NUP decided to take an upper hand, rejected all the help that was offered to them and it created so much chaos.

The government had organized a playground in Masaka but they didn’t have access to the body. Some of the children didn’t bury their father because they were swindled away by some people to the playground.

The whole burial was political which angered the mother of the late Ssegirinya and in her speech he thanked the government and Hon Mathias Mpuuga for always helping her financially.

Most Ugandans were so much angry as they didn’t see this coming because Ssegirinya was a hard working and well loved man to deserve a decent burial.
