Entertainment Centers, Concerts Have NOT BEEN OPENED – Ministry Of Health Clarifies
December 16, 2020As Ugandans prepare themselves for the festive season, event promoters had started jubilating after fake news made rounds that the Ministry of Health has okayed the opening of entertainment centers and concerts. Since Covid-19 lockdown in March, the government banned events that attract gatherings.
Churches, Concerts, Schools among others were closed. In September the government allowed schools to reopen but only for candidate classes.
Churches were also allowed to open but with only 70 people. Later the number was increased to 200.
When Nigerian artistes, Omah Lay and Tems held an illegal concert in Munyonyo on Sunday, event promoters and artistes hoped that the government would allow them make some dime over the festive season.
But, today the Ministry of Health took to Twitter and carified that entertainment centers or concerts have not been opened and ONLY cinemas were permitted to open provided persons maintain a 2 meter distance in all directions and adhere to all COVID-19 preventive measures.
“The Ministry of Health would like to state that entertainment centers or concerts have NOT BEEN OPENED as is being portrayed in sections of the media. All bars, night clubs and discotheques remain closed. As indicated by the Ministry of Health in a statement read on 9 November 2020, under entertainment, ONLY cinemas were permitted to open on 14 November 2020 provided persons maintain a 2 meter distance in all directions and adhere to all COVID-19 preventive measures”.
