Lwasa Arrested Over Forgery, Detained

Renowned Masaka tycoon, Emmanuel Lwasa Kaweesi is currently detained at Jinja Road Police station over forgery.

According to Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, Lwasa was arrested after forging signatures on documents related to gold mining.

He was picked from his office at Najja Shopping Centre in Najjanankumbi on Monday evening and detained at Jinja Road Police station.

Lwasa through his companies, Trans Equator Miners and Trade Pearl International contacted an individual in Barcelona Spain with an aim of selling him 500kgs of Gold.

The individual contacted Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development to verify if Lwasa was licensed to trade Gold. Unfortunately the ministry discovered that he had forged their signatures.

Mr. Lwasa was arrested on April, 4, 2022 at 1600hrs from his office at Najja Shopping Centre, Najjanankumbi for allegedly forging the signature of the acting Director Geological survey and mines (Ag. D/GSM) Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development Mrs Alaba Agnes and that of Ms Grace Lajwe Principal Chemist Directorate of Geological survey and mines (DGSM) in his fraudulent transactions using his two companies; Trans Equator Miners Ltd and Trade Pannel International Limited

In January, security operatives tracked Lwasa and arrested him in Mityana after an illegal gold deal went wrong.

It is said that he was paid $60000 (approximately 222m) to deliver kilograms of gold to a Chinese national and disappeared in thin air.

Digging deep into the matter, Police Minerals Protection Unit (PMPU) discovered that fake masters were forging signatures of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development Mrs Alaba Agnes and that of Ms Grace Lajwe Principal Chemist Directorate of Geological survey and mines (DGSM) to fleece their clients.
