Top 10 highest scorers in the Premier League of all-time.

The league has been home to legendary players who have scored a record-breaking number of goals in their careers.

The cream of the crop have showcased their exceptional talents in the competition. The league is therefore watched by millions around the world and is hailed as the toughest league competition in the world.

With players like Wayne Rooney, Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer and many other sensational attackers having played in the English top flight, the list of the all-time leading goal scorers of the league makes for interesting reading:

10. Michael Owen – 150 (326)

Michael Owen is one of only 10 players that have scored 150 goals or more in the Premier League. Apart from Real Madrid in La Liga, Owen played in England for clubs like Liverpool, Newcastle United and Manchester United. He is also a Ballon d’Or winner in 2001 and twice won the Golden Boot award.

9. Harry Kane – 159 (236)

One of only two active players among the Premier League top scorers, Harry Kane has scored 154 goals in 227 appearances as of yet and will have his eyes set on breaking the all-time record for most goals. The striker still has several years of football left in him. 

8. Robbie Fowler – 162 (379)

Liverpool great and current head coach of SC East Bengal in the Indian Super League, Robbie Fowler scored 162 goals in 379 league appearances. While the striker played most extensively for the Reds, he also featured for the likes of Manchester City, Leeds United among other clubs. 

7. Jermain Defoe – 163 (496)

Jermain Defoe has performed well for several clubs in England, most notably Tottenham Hotspur. He featured in the Premier League 496 times and scored 163 goals. The Englishman is currently playing for Rangers in the Scottish Premier League. 

6. Thierry Henry – 175 (258)

Arsenal’s legendary striker Thierry Henry scored 175 goals in 258 Premier League appearances. During his time in England, he was widely considered as the best forward in the world and mesmerized fans with his immaculate technique and finishing. Henry won four Golden Boot awards in five seasons in the early 2000s.

5. Frank Lampard – 177 (611)

Chelsea’s current manager Frank Lampard is a legendary figure at the club. The Englishman is the only midfielder in the list of Premier League top scorers and was a efficient penalty-taker. One of the club’s leading appearance-makers, he featured for them 611 times in the league and scored 177 goals. He also featured for Manchester City briefly.

4. Sergio Aguero – 181 (271)

Sergio Aguero is the second active player on the list and has only featured for Manchester City in the Premier League. He has scored 180 goals as of yet in 268 league appearances and unless he moves away, has a real chance of rising up the ranks. The Argentine has won the Golden Boot once during the 2014/15 season. 

3. Andy Cole – 187 (415)

One of the few strikers to make more than 400 appearances in the Premier League, Andy Cole scored 187 goals in 415 caps. The Englishman retired as a player back in 2008. He featured extensively for Manchester United during his career, but also represented teams like Blackburn Rovers, Leeds United, Manchester City and Newcastle United among other clubs.  

2. Wayne Rooney – 208 (491)

One of Manchester United’s all-time greats and their highest goalscorer, Wayne Rooney is only the second player to have scored more than 200 goals in the competition. He featured briefly for Everton as well and is now the manager of Derby County. Rooney won 17 trophies at United in his 13 years at the club. 

1. Alan Shearer – 260 (441)

The all-time leading goalscorer in the history of the Premier League is Alan Shearer. The Englishman’s record is probably secure for several more years, unless Harry Kane surpasses it.

The striker is a legendary figure at both Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers, two clubs he has represented extensively in the league. Shearer scored 260 goals in 441 appearances and also won the Golden Boot on three occasions.
