Singer Veronica Nalugya famously known as Vinka has spoken out passionately about her partner’s recent defeat in the Member of Parliament race, describing the experience as heartbreaking but also a stepping stone for the future.
She revealed how deeply the loss affected her: “My man is my favorite politician and when he lost the election, I felt so bad; so bad it broke my heart so much. I cried so much but we are very optimistic. Life has to go on and we are still young. Why would he quit?”
According to her, this was the very first time her partner had reached such a high level in politics.
Previously, he had only contested in the primaries, but this time he managed to stand for the MP seat. She emphasized that many people do not understand the significance of this milestone.
“It was the very first time that he got to that level of contesting for the Member of Parliament post. He had never got that far; the last time he stopped at the primaries. This time was the very first time to get there but people just talk because they do not know. But it is okay; they do not have to know.”
Despite the setback, she insisted that quitting is not an option. The couple remains hopeful, viewing this as the beginning of a longer political journey.
Her words highlight the resilience and determination often required in political careers, especially for newcomers navigating Uganda’s competitive landscape.
